The Federal Reserve has ventured onto Instagram and Threads, aiming to enhance the accessibility of Board news and educational content.
In its news release, the Federal Reserve announced the launch of accounts on these Meta-owned social media platforms. Instagram posts will encompass various forms of content, including photos, videos, FAQs, economic education materials, and more.
On the other hand, Threads, a text-based social media platform designed as an alternative to the former Twitter, will serve as a platform for sharing press releases, speeches, testimony, reports, and all other content typically posted on the Board’s X account.
The Federal Reserve’s Instagram account has already garnered nearly 30,000 followers, featuring an introductory video from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell as its inaugural post.
In the video, Powell introduces himself as “Jay Powell” and highlights the Federal Reserve’s presence on Instagram and Threads.
The move to expand the Federal Reserve’s social media presence coincides with ongoing efforts to manage inflation, with Federal Reserve Gov. Michelle Bowman suggesting the need for further interest rate hikes to address rising costs and achieve the target 2 percent inflation goal.
The Federal Reserve’s engagement on Instagram and Threads is part of its broader efforts to provide the public with insight into its activities and engage with a wider audience.
