Tomás Daly is a Professor at Melbourne Law School and the Director of the Democratic Decay & Renewal (DEM-DEC) platform at www.democratic-decay.org. His latest project focuses on the concept of “constitutional repair,” which addresses the question of how a democracy can be restored after being damaged by anti-democratic forces. This episode is part of a partnership with the Constitution Building Programme at International IDEA and explores the case of Poland, where a coalition government has recently come to power with the goal of repairing the country’s democratic institutions. We discuss the challenges and potential pitfalls of this process, as well as the importance of avoiding democratic backsliding. This is an important topic as many countries around the world are facing similar issues and dilemmas in their efforts to restore their democratic systems.
