Dorothy Hoffner, a remarkable 104 year old woman from Chicago who recently attempted a skydive, potentially securing a Guinness World Record as the oldest person to ever jump from a plane, has passed away. This 104 year old Guinness World Records Contender for Skydiving was found dead on Monday morning by staff at her senior living community. It is believed that she peacefully passed away in her sleep on Sunday night.
Hoffner’s close friend, Joe Conant, described her as a person with incredible energy who remained mentally sharp. He fondly referred to her as “Grandma” at her request. Conant, who is a nurse, first met Hoffner several years ago while working as a caregiver for another resident at the senior living center. He emphasized her indefatigable spirit, noting that she never took afternoon naps, never missed any events or dinners, and was always fully engaged and present.
On October 1, Hoffner achieved a remarkable feat by making a tandem skydive that could potentially secure her a place in the record books as the world’s oldest skydiver. She leaped from a plane at an altitude of 4,100 meters at Skydive Chicago in Ottawa, Illinois, located 140 kilometers southwest of Chicago. After landing, she confidently told a cheering crowd, “Age is just a number.” Notably, this wasn’t her first skydiving experience, as she had previously made her first jump at the age of 100. Dorothy Hoffner‘s adventurous spirit and zest for life have left an indelible mark.
